New Program Simplifies Clinical Trial Searches for Cancer Patients
A recent study introduces the Clinical Trial Navigator (CTN) Program, which helps people with cancer, their families, and care teams quickly find matching clinical trials. Over 445 applicants enrolled in the CTN program between March 2019 and July 2024 by filling out a short, secure survey about their medical history. Each participant received a tailored list of potential trials, ensuring relevant options were easy to review.
Early results show that 88% of applicants received at least one matching trial, and more than a quarter of patients were formally referred to a clinical trial. Of these, 18% ultimately enrolled, with many others still considering their options. The program underscores how dedicated support can remove barriers to clinical research, making it easier for patients to explore experimental treatments that fit their needs.
Looking ahead, the CTN team plans to broaden its reach across Canada, measure patient satisfaction, and investigate what factors best predict successful referrals and enrollments. This initiative highlights how connecting patients with the right trials can create more opportunities for cutting-edge cancer care.
